Fertilization
Since its inception in 1979, In Vitro Fertilization has helped millions of couples achieve pregnancy.
In Vitro Fertilization is an assisted reproduction technique created to increase the possibility of pregnancy in couples.
The In Vitro Fertilization technique consists of several steps:
Step 1
Ovarian stimulation aims to increase the number of eggs produced by the patient. The stimulation is carried out through the consumption of hormones prescribed by the specialist doctor.
Step 2
The extraction of oocytes is done vaginally, under sedation and under ultrasound control. The approximate duration of this procedure is 15 minutes, plus the minutes necessary to wait for the patient to be discharged.
Step 3
Once the oocytes have been obtained, the semen sample is obtained from the male, either by masturbation or by means of the testicular biopsy technique, as the case may be. We then place the oocytes together with the previously treated and selected sperm in a petri dish, in order to propitiate the fertilization of the egg, which takes approximately 17 hours.
Step 4
Once the Blastocyst stage has been reached, this is the stage with the best quality and the highest probability of pregnancy, then the embryo is ready for transfer.
Step 5
The moment of the transfer of the embryos to the maternal uterus is different in each case, although we always try to transfer in the blastocyst. This depends on the characteristics of the embryos, the evolution that they have had, prepares them to choose the most pertinent moment since this will add or subtract the possibilities of implantation in the uterus. The transfer is performed transcervically and does not require anesthesia, that is, through a thin, fine catheter.
