ICSI

With the technique of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) we treat infertility in patients with few spermatozoa, with low sperm motility, and also in patients without spermatozoa in the ejaculate.

In the latter case, the sperm is obtained by means of a testicular biopsy. As for the woman, she must undergo the procedure of gentle stimulation or controlled ovarian hyperstimulation and egg retrieval.

The ICSI technique is a highly specialized In Vitro Fertilization, where only one previously selected spermatozoon is required to be microinjected into the egg. Our specialized biologists hold a single egg on the tip of a fine suction pipette and penetrate it with a needle approximately seven times thinner than a hair. All this is done through a powerful microscope and microscopic manipulation instruments. With this technique we treat infertility in patients with few spermatozoa, with low sperm motility, and also in patients without spermatozoa in the ejaculate. In the latter case the sperm are obtained by means of a testicular biopsy. As for the woman, she must undergo the procedure of gentle stimulation or controlled ovarian hyperstimulation and egg retrieval.

The ICSI technique is commonly recommended in the following cases:

  • Patients in whom egg retrieval is low.
  • Women over 40 years of age.
  • Conventional IVF where no fertilization has taken place.
  • Couples with two IVF attempts, with embryo transfer but no pregnancy.
  • Couples with generic problems, in this case it is necessary to submit the embryos to preimplantation diagnosis, in order to rule out any genetic anomaly.
  • The probability of pregnancy by ICSI is 50% in women under 38 years.
